DANCER & ChoreographerTessandra Chavez began training in dance at the age of 5, choreographing at 11 and started her dance company, Unity Dance Ensemble, at the age of 15. Since then, Tessandra has gone on to achieve several choreography awards. She was most recently named “top choreographer’s pick” by Mia Michaels, Brian Friedman, Dave Scott & Cris Judd for her work. Tessandra now resides in Los Angeles where she expanded her dance company and launched Unity LA, the third branch of Unity Dance Ensemble preceding Unity San Diego and Unity 2 (the apprentice company). Ms. Chavez is currently teaching for professional studios in LA such as the Edge and the Debbie Allen Dance Academy. In addition to teaching in LA, she also travels nationally as a master teacher for conventions and a choreographer for various studios and companies. Tessandra is known for her innovative and groundbreaking style of blending Jazz, Hip Hop and Modern. Many regard her as a pioneer of the Jazz Funk phenomenon. She calls her style, “Contemporary Hip Hop.” Her powerful niche as a choreographer is the ability to move her audience through her emotional masterpieces. She is an inspirational teacher who believes in making dancers great people as well as great dancers. Most recently, she worked with the So You Think You Can Dance Cast Season 5 choreographing the opening number for their tour alongside Tabitha and Napoleon. Ms. Chavez is very proud to announce that Debbie Allen has discovered her talent and is producing her debut LA show “The Phoenix” coming this Summer 2010! Look out for it!!!! |
