Stories of Survival

"While I was running to get out of my house, one of the walls fell down on me and crushed my foot and pinned it down.  When I reached down to try and free it, I realized that the wall had taken a big piece of flesh out of my foot."

"I was working in a home in the kitchen washing the dishes when the 'quake hit.  I suddenly felt the shaking and thought about running but realized I couldn't make it because the house began to fall.  I was on the second floor and the stairway was too long so I just laid down on the floor as the building fell on top of me.  Two big pieces of concrete pinned my legs together.  I pulled and pulled to try and get out but couldn't.  I felt down where my legs were and my hands were all bloody and then I realized my hands were inside the meat of the backs of my legs.  I stayed there until midnight of the first night.  Some men heard me and came with big steel bars and pried the wall off of me and I was taken to the hospital."

"I was in a two story home on the bottom floor when it happened.  The house came down on top of me.  The concrete floor opened up, my leg fell in, then the floor closed back up on it.  I was stuck for three hours before my brother came and got me out.  My leg was pinched in the concrete and broken to pieces.  It was so badly crushed that it had to be taken off."
